Breakdown Update

Its been awhile since warmcanofcoke's breakdown graphic was updated, we've all come leaps and bounds since its arrival online and honestly, if it didn't exist, this blog wouldn't exist either, so thanks Nate mate!

My friend Kurt, whom is a fellow Ace badge adventurererer and discovererer has put a new graphic together, so here it is for your reference:

New Badge, New Update Photo

With the arrival of a few minor badges, I thought it best to post another picture to show you all how its looking, and its looking rather splendid - even if its missing some major patches.

Here it is hanging today, with the new arrivals;



Fortunately, thanks to the latest issue of Doctor Who Magazine we have identified the mysterious Union Jack shield badge on the right chest. Here is a quick mock up of the DWM image with the badge as was bought from eBay.



Having said that, a friend who owns one of the original screen-used Ace jackets confirmed that warmcanofcoke's original 'Carnaby Street' assumption is indeed correct still, both were used across the jackets. I assume when the stunt jackets were made they had to find something! and maybe the England ones were as close as possible.

Jacket Update - New Badges and a mock up

Here's a set of pictures taken last year, around November time, of the jacket as it more or less stands now.



We were due to visit an event (on possible one of the most hottest weekends of the year - unfortunately too hot to wear the jacket but we made some friends who noticed it) so I cobbled together a mock up of the "ACE" on the back, made of red, white and yellow felt. I had photoshopped its approximate size in relation to screengrabs and images from the programme, it doesn't look too bad in fact. Obviously not the correct material, the correct material was more like the makings of the jacket itself. I'll see what I can find.



After this we still had some nice weather so I took some time and did some photos in the garden with my other favourite prop right now, the Seventh Doctor's umbrella.

Its on the cards...

In my vague attempt to track down some more badges, I found a nice little auction for a badge of playing cards. As depicted by the warmcanofcoke breakdown of the badges, one is an arrangement of cards with the top face of the Ace of Diamonds.



I found the above badge on ebay and paid for it straight away.

It arrived the next day and I feel somewhat disappointed that, despite being informed it is roughly 1 inch in width, it is considerably smaller. Well I say considerably smaller, it is correct in width but for some reason I expected to be at least an inch in height.

The same happened previously when sourcing the Charlton Athletic badges, sellers macros are obviously very good at tricking me, or I'm just blind.

Nevermind. Not sure whether I will return it, or just put up with it.

That bear...

The elusive Rupert Bear Club badge, in its original 1980s condition, is almost in my hands...

Again, another unknown badge (the top one) I can't find any better imagery or understanding of, appears to be an 8 or a swirl of two circles or something - most probably a logo.



Other imagery from publicity coming shortly - unfortunately with no better perspective!

First unknown badge, this strange one that I can't recall seeing in the programmes but it is in publicity material - so it MUST be there.

Its a strip of metal with what I assume will be words across it. Finding other imagery for this one is difficult.

Buying badges... (1)

On the 15th Nov 2010 I took the delivery of two unique badges, at first ones that I thought I would find it difficult to get my hands on, but this was not the case - thanks to eBay!



Here are two Soviet Union/USSR/Russian Communist badges, the small one has always appeared on the Ace jacket from day one ("Dragonfire") but the larger badge didn't appear until "Curse of Fenric" as a gift from Commander Sovrin.

They both have these strange awkward metal flanks that I presume I should be bending to put into position, but given the length of them and the fact I may have to cut the jacket to get them on, I think this will be quite tricky indeed!

But come to think of it, cutting the flanks should do it, while adapting the larger badge to be a pin-on (as is seen in "Curse of Fenric")

Now to get the other 35+odd badges!
